Warehouse Block seeks neighbors to serve on advisory board
Please consider this letter an open invitation to join the first-ever Warehouse Block Advisory Board. Walker Properties, a Lexington-born family business, owns the majority of properties located on Walton, National and North Ashland avenues, known as the Warehouse Block. Although the renovation of this historic district has been slow and organic, it has finally achieved a stability as one of Lexington’s first adaptive reuse projects. Following the implementation of the PlaceBuilder criteria, the City of Lexington has placed much greater emphasis on collaboration between property developers, or in our case re-developers, and the neighboring residences. I have always maintained an open line of communication with Kenwick and Mentelle neighborhoods, but also with individual residents on upcoming projects, challenges and resolution of issues that extend beyond our neighborhoods.
Beginning this year, I’m offering to host a combined Kenwick and Mentelle Neighborhoods Advisory Board. The purpose of this board is to remain up-to-date on future projects, track incoming businesses, correct issues but to also discuss and hopefully implement design elements that will make our neighborhood better for everyone. The first item we will discuss pertains to altering National Avenue to better accommodate pedestrians while slowing traffic. But from there, any item would be up for discussion.
The schedule for the Advisory Committee would be quarterly for one hour. Our first meeting will be held on February 10 at 5:30 at Mirror Twin Brewing. I’ll have a table near the front overhead door at the 723 National Avenue building (the building on the left.) I would like to have 3-5 folks from each neighborhood, that would be willing to meet four times per year for about an hour.
If you are interested, please contact your Neighborhood Association president (email Ann Olliges) by midnight, February 3, for availability. Thank you in advance for your interest, and I hope to see you on the 10th.
Sincerely,
Chad T. Walker
