New neighborhood environment group

MNA board member Barbara Wagner wants to start a group of neighborhood residents interested in exploring ways to help us become more environmentally responsible.  Her idea is to try new ideas and approaches that might work in our neighborhood and even be models for other Lexington neighborhoods. If you are interested in participating in this group, email her at: barbwire8@twc.com.

Want to join the MNA board?

Mentelle Neighborhood Association members elect officers and directors for one-year terms each fall, with terms beginning Jan. 1.  Several vacancies are coming up next year, and the board’s nominating committee would like to hear from you if you have an interest in being added to the election slate for the annual membership meeting, Oct. 26  at 6:30 p.m.  (place still to be determined.)

Typically, new board members serve as at-large directors for at least a year before taking an officer’s position so they can get to know the organization, but that is not a requirement. Any MNA member can run for any office. The board meets monthly, except in December, on the third Wednesday evening of the month.

If you are interested in standing for election to the board, or have questions about whether board service might be right for you,  please email MNA Secretary Tom Eblen.

MNA Board meeting tonight

The Mentelle Neighborhood Association’s board of directors will have its regular monthly meeting (third Wednesday of each month, except December) tonight at 7 p.m. outside at the north end of the Mentelle Park median. Any MNA member is welcome to attend. BYOC (Bring your own chair.)

Neighborhood picnic is Sunday!

The annual Mentelle neighborhood picnic returns Sunday after a two-year pandemic hiatus. It will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the north median of Mentelle Park nearest Cramer Avenue. All neighborhood residents and their families are invited to attend.

The Mentelle Neighborhood Association will provide hamburgers and hotdogs. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share and your own choice of beverage. There will be games and activities for kids, a bouncy house provided by the Warehouse block, a city fire truck to inspect (if it’s not busy fighting a fire), and live music.

Mentelle Park residents please note: The east (even numbered) side of the street beside the median nearest Cramer will be closed to vehicular traffic from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. So please adjust your plans (and car’s location) accordingly.
