Attention mosquito haters

The Mentelle Neighborhood Association has partnered with Bat BnB, a new local business to offer residents attractive wooden bat boxes that can be installed on your property and which will hopefully reduce mosquitos and other insects without the needs for chemicals, whilst enhancing the look of your property.

The manufacturer has plenty of information and pictures of the boxes on their website (www.batbnb.com) or you can contact Richard Coles for more details.

At this time we are trying to find out if anybody is interesting in buying a box – we do not yet know the final price and whether we can get a discount as part of the Association but it does sound like we can get free installation and free advice as to the best placement. Bat BnB has indicated they might sell for $179 to $199.

Please email or call Richard Coles on (859) 533 3216 or charlesdoric@gmail.com  to confirm your interest on or before Wednesday July 26

Thanks for successful yard sale

More than a dozen neighborhood families participated in the inaugural Mentelle Neighborhood Yard Sale, and it was a big success. We had good crowds and most families reported good sales.

Several families who didn’t want to have their own yard sale donated items for an association booth that Ann Olliges organized in the Mentelle Park Median. The booth earned $265.50 for the association. Thanks to the donors, Ann and her helpers, who included Shelby Reynolds, Beverly Fortune, Ron Mitchell and Becky and Tom Eblen.

Please send your feedback about the yard sale to a board member. We plan to make this an annual event. But next year we will order cooler weather.

It’s almost Yard Sale Saturday

The Mentelle Neighborhood’s inaugural yard sale is THIS Saturday, 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Be sure to check out the participating homes listed below.
Also, the Mentelle Park Median will be full of items donated by neighborhood folks with proceeds going to the neighborhood association. If you want to donate any items, bring them to the Median by 7 a.m. Saturday so they can be priced and displayed.

We hope to see many of you out and about!

Reminder: Sign up now for yard sale

The Mentelle Neighborhood Association is asking any neighborhood resident planning a yard sale this summer to schedule it for Saturday, July 22, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain or shine). That way we can draw a big crowd — and sell our unwanted stuff!

To attract that crowd, the association is asking each participating family to chip in $5 for advertising and promotion. If you want to participate, please download and complete this form and return it by July 15 so organizers can begin promoting the sale.

Ashland playground design chosen; more volunteers needed to build it

Here is a rendering of the design for the new Ashland Elementary School playground. It was chosen by students as their favorite of three design options and color schemes. (The double-slide may have put this design over the top.)

The school still needs more volunteers to sign up on the website (https://www.tfaforms.com/4616162 ) to help with Build Day on Friday, June 23, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Volunteers also are needed for Prep Day on Wednesday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A&W will be providing breakfast and lunch for volunteers, and Dr. Pepper/Snapple will be providing refreshments. School-age children are welcome to come along on Build Day (June 23), and there will be planned activities to keep them busy and productive. It should be a lot of fun!

Ashland School playground build needs volunteers June 21, 22, 23

Ashland Elementary School needs 200 volunteers to help build its new playground, June 21-23. No construction experience or special skills are necessary! If you can give some of your time, please click here for more information and a volunteer signup sheet.  This is a great opportunity to show how much the Mentelle Neighborhood supports our excellent neighborhood school.

Thanks for median cleanup help

A big thank you to all the helpers working on the Mentelle Median. We had 11 people Saturday morning and weeded and mulched three beds as well as cleaning out the natural flower beds. The median is really looking beautiful! There are only two beds left that need some work, so let me know if you can help and we can work out another date.
